Besides the goodness found in semolina as specified in the Previous recipe “Sooji (semolina) porridge”, fabulous taste and texture is given to the taste buds and introduces a baby to the Indian cuisine and its richness. This baby food recipe is good to start with solid foods for the baby. This baby food recipe is one full meal to be served in lunch/dinner with easy digestion.

Ingredients
- Powered Sooji (Semolina) – 1 to 1 ½ tbsp.
- Roasted Cumin Seeds (powered) – a pinch
- Salt – a pinch
- Water – 100 to 110 ml
How to Make
- Roast the sooji until fragrant and is slightly brown (rust) colour.
- Crush the roasted sooji in mixer.
- Soak the crushed sooji in warm water (100ml) for around 15mins before starting with the recipe. This makes the soft and fluffy.
- Take the soaked sooji along with water in a cooking pan and stir continuously to avoid lumps of sooji.
- The mixture will start getting fluffy in around 4 to 5 mins.
- Add cumin seeds and salt after the boil.
- Simmer the flame and continue stirring till the porridge is ready for approx. 9 to 10 mins.
- Turn off the flame, and the recipe is ready to serve to the baby.
Useful Tips
- Do taste the recipe so prepared before feeding it to the baby.
- The consistency of the mixture should be liquid enough when given to the baby at the age of 6 months. Therefore, more water can be added if the mixture is too thick.
- Try to serve the warm porridge; otherwise, it will get thick.
- Cumin seeds are added to enhance the flavour and aroma of the recipe. They are rich in iron and promotes digestion.
- Crushed sooji can be stored in an airtight container for longer usage.
- The proportion of the ingredients can be changed according to the baby’s age.
- Always check with your paediatrician before giving any new food to the baby.
