Semolina is full of protein and fibre that increases the feeling of fullness. Also rich in iron and magnesium for a healthy heart. This baby food recipe is one full meal to be served in lunch/dinner with easy digestion.

Ingredients

  • Powered Sooji (Semolina) – 1 to 1 ½ tbsp.
  • Mishri sugar/Jaggery  – to taste
  • Almonds (powdered) – a pinch
  • Black/Green Cardamom (powdered) – a pinch
  • Milk – 60 ml
  • Water – 60 ml

     Note: Milk and water to be taken in equal proportion.

 

How to Make

  • Roast the sooji until fragrant and is slightly brown (rust) colour.
  • Crush the roasted sooji in mixer.
  • Soak the crushed sooji in warm water (60 ml) for around 15mins before starting with the recipe or add the sooji when the water boils. This hepls in preparing soft and fluffy porridge.
  • Take the soaked sooji along with water in a cooking pan and add the milk.
  • Stir continuously to avoid lumps of sooji, and on the first boil, add misri sugar to the mixture.
  • Simmer the flame and continue stirring for 9 to 10 mins and add almonds and cardamom.
  • When the porridge starts sticking to the pan, close the gas stove.
  • The hot and sweet sooji porridge (approx. 100 ml) is ready to serve to the baby.

 

Useful Tips

  • Do taste the recipe so prepared before feeding it to the baby.
  • Avoid cow milk if your baby is under a year old.
  • Cardamom helps in easy digestion and reduces constipation in babies. Further, it also enhances the taste, and its fragrance makes the baby food recipe mouth-watering.
  • Crushed sooji can be stored in an airtight container for longer use and time saving. Similarly, roasted almonds and crushed cardamom.
  • In winters, almonds (10), cashew nuts (2), walnuts (1/2), pistachios (2) can be crushed altogether and be kept in airtight container. This mix can also be added to the recipe.
  • Try to serve warm porridge; otherwise, it will get dry. If serving with more interval, do make the porridge warm before serving.
  • The quantity of dry fruits can be increased if your baby is 10 months old.
  • The proportion of the ingredients be changed according to the taste of your baby.
  • Always check with your paediatrician before giving any new food to the baby.
